The best cruise lines in the world: 2023 Readers' Choice Awards

In fact, Silversea's butlers take white-glove service to a whole new level — they'll handle your laundry with more care than you do, scour port towns to find your favorite tastes of home, and even help you pack and unpack your suitcase. Further, Silversea's new culinary program, nicknamed S.A.L.T. (for Sea and Land Taste), brings the taste of destinations on board through cooking classes. Of course, there's no need to cook for yourself aboard a Silversea ship, as each one features several restaurants with multi-course menus to whet your appetite every night. By definition, small ships hold fewer than 1200 passengers, usually making the cruise experience more intimate with more individualized service.

Oceania Cruises has just seven ships, but the debut of the brand-new Oceania Vista catapults this cruise line into the luxury division. The cruise line's relatively new Go Local shore excursions for small groups bring travelers to under-the-radar destinations, T+L contributing editor and long-time cruiser Sarah Greaves-Gabbadon reported recently. Her 2022 cruise on Riviera included 70 excursions "from canoeing Croatia’s Cetina River to cooking classes in Athens." If you've ever dreamed of having your own butler, Silversea is the luxury cruise line for you.

"The cruise itself was absolutely perfect. Nice weather, great excursions, beautiful scenery, nice ship and excellent staff." For the best in-suite views, book a room at the back of the ship, Kelly Cochrane, executive chef of Regent Seven Seas Cruises tells T+L.

French luxury cruise line Ponant aims to make passengers feel as if they're traveling on their own private yachts. Guests enjoy Ladurée macarons, Veuve Clicquot Champagne, and luxurious Hermès bath products on board. Each of the company's ships features an onboard spa with massage cabins and either a Turkish bath or sauna. Ponant's luxurious small ships sail to remote destinations like Antarctica, incorporating once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as eclipse spotting from the edge of the earth.

Expedition Awards

Seabourn cruises to all seven continents, and most recently launched Seabourn Venture, "marking the first time the Carnival Corporation–owned luxury cruise line will offer adventurous sailings on an expedition ship built for extreme environments," Brady reported. “For the most part, luxury cruises appeal to a segment of travelers looking for similar experiences on land – more luxurious offerings, fewer crowds, and phenomenal activities. Luxury cruises tend to be longer than other cruises, so they appeal to guests who have ample time for vacation,” she adds. Paul Gauguin Cruises operates just one ship, but it is exquisite, hosting 330 guests and sailing only in the South Pacific to destinations like Tahiti, Fiji, Tonga, and the Cook Islands.

Celebrity's signature Iconic Suites on board the Celebrity Edge and Apex offer panoramic views from above the ship's bridge; each suite boasts more than 2,500 square feet of space, including expansive 690-square-foot terraces, and comes with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Celebrity Beyond, which debuted in 2022, accommodates 3,260 guests has 32 bars and restaurants, like Le Voyage by chef Daniel Boulud, and two-story villas on board. Cruises are booming right now, buoyed partly by the popularity of domestic seacations that hauled in first-time sailors.

“There’s also a greater space ratio onboard, allowing for less crowding and more space for guests to spread out and enjoy,” she says. The line’s newest ship, Silver Nova, which holds 728 passengers was ranked as the Best New Luxury Ship. This environmentally-friendly ship, which began its inaugural cruise in August, 2023 is the industry’s first hybrid luxury cruise ship.

The ship is small enough to access private ports at remote beaches and take travelers well off the beaten path. Named the best small-ship ocean cruise line in T+L's 2022 World's Best Awards, Golden said the line is known for Tahitian-inspired massage techniques in the onboard spa and noted that cruisers particularly love the wonderful staff. Everything from shore excursions, Wi-Fi, and laundry to gratuities, top-shelf liquor, and business-class international flights are included with Regent Seven Seas Cruises' fares. While each luxurious suite features ocean views, nothing beats the view from the epic 4,000-square-foot, two-bedroom Regent Suite, which has two wraparound balconies, three walk-in closets, two Picasso lithographs, and a grand piano. Whether it's a river or an ocean you want to cruise, Scenic can take you there in style. The luxury cruise line operates river cruises in Europe and Asia, while ocean cruises on Scenic Eclipse (and the forthcoming Scenic Eclipse II) can take guests to Antarctica, the Arctic, Australia, South America, and Greenland, among other coveted destinations.

Ship Tip

Viking Cruises is a river and ocean cruise line that recently added expedition sailings and the Great Lakes trips to its repertoire. "T+L readers rave about the consistency of Viking's vessels and their Scandinavian design," cruise expert Fran Golden reported when Viking once again topped T+L's World's Best Awards last year. Viking came in at No. 1 in T+L's best mid-size ship category and river cruise category. Golden said the WBA Hall of Fame honoree's 50 river "longships" are "light-filled floating boutique hotels."

Silversea Cruises topped the list as Best Luxury Cruise Line for the second year in a row.

So much so that Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ 34,000-mile world trip for 2024 sold out in just over two hours, while the adults-only Virgin Voyages, which aims to throw cruise stereotypes overboard, rose to first place in Large Ships. And we’ve brought back last year's new category showcasing the expedition cruises – small, often sustainable vessels with a shoal of scientific experts onboard – that follow in the wake of adventurers such as Sir Ernest Shackleton. Exquisite onboard menus have been designed by acclaimed chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants.

Cruise Critic just announced its annual list of the Best Cruise Lines of The Year. This is the 15th iteration of the list compiled by the online cruise community’s international team of cruise experts. These are the best cruise lines in the world, according to the 2023 Readers' Choice Awards. iCruise com Reviews Read Customer Service Reviews of icruise.com

i cruise

First experience with Icruise and I had the Best service ever. I recently purchased a membership plan with Mary Doucet, wonderful lady. I then spoke to Mary Esquilona about booking another cruise. She informed me that what I had purchased did not cover what I was looking at. She then put me in touch Miguel Suarez, I say complaints department, but I assume a supervisor. I will be back after my cruise to let you know how everything went.

Great wonderful services

Can't say enough about the friendly crew on board that served you well at every touch point. I sent a request for a cruise quote for 4 people in 2 cabins with specific instructions in the notes not to call me. Apparently they don’t read the notes with instructions. Why even have the box if you’re not going to g to read it?

Booked cruise with Icruise 13 months…

Since being contacted by a supervisor a complete refund has been issued icruise has completely resolved my complaint. Helpful agents with good information and tips in planning our vacation cruise. We got a great deal, and went at a great time for us and the weather. Too much fog and rain to do our morning excursion on a Sea Plane to see all the glaciers. Norwegian is a great cruise line with lots of helpful staff to serve you everywhere you went on the ship. Using internet was extremely confusing, but very necessary if you are used to it.

Shout out to the crew again…

Doesn’t complain about cancellations, there have been a lot of those recently. She’s a true professional and knows the cruise business. Lots of good inside information and tips, things I just can’t find online. Dear Mike, We apologize for the issue you experienced.

iCruise.com Reviews

I have been issued a complete refund when I only asked for a partial. Cruise.com has been connecting travelers with the perfect cruise vacations since 1998. We pride ourselves in the best service possible, an accomplishment acknowledged by the most authoritative companies in the cruise industry. Cruise.com was named Agency of the Year by Carnival Cruises and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. I found a cruise at a great price on Icruise.com. I called the company to book (showed approximately 20 rooms at the price) and they said that it's not the same price through royal caribbean now.

Write a review

So then I called the guy out about the notes & he hung up on me. Then days later someone called me & wanted to give me info on a cabin for 2. They used to have US based agents but now it’s going to a foreign country call center & I don’t like that. If they can’t pay attention to simple notes, imagine what your reservation is going to be like. I’ve used them in the past but I’ll never use them again.

I recently lost my 16-year old son, Aiden; and I decided to take this trip with my younger son and husband. I am broken-hearted—thinking how I could possibly go on this trip, continue the journey of life without Aiden. When I called, I was greeted by a warm personality, travel advisor, Martin Brooks. He was professional, helpful, and most of all, he was very kind. I appreciated his patience and the respectful manner of his communication. Thank you, Martin, for taking time to help me book this trip.

I recently booked a cruise and was very disappointed with how the agent messed up the entire package of extras. However Icruise was very concerned that a mistake had been made and went over and above to correct the problem. Mistakes happen and the best you can hope or is that the company cares and will make it right.

They said their system failed to update and they didn't know it. I wasted an hour and a half of my life on the phone with them. Often cruise lines offer special rates that cannot be displayed to the general public.

I could not get a hold of the original agent who sent an e mail quote to me as I left messages 3 days in a row so I called back for anyone. The agent would not honor the price I was quoted for insurance in an email so I didn't book it with the cruise. The agent talked me into the next level in icruise rewards stating it can be cancelled at anytime.

About 1 week after booking my wife lost her job. I tried calling James to cancel for a few days and finally got him and he said the $500 would be returned but your fee of $181 would be forfeited. He stated he would send the membership to his manager for cancellation approval. Several days passed and I saw no credit for membership even though no benefits were used. I never heard from anyone and I would never recommend this company.

Book a cabin in the middle of the ship

Book A Cabin In The Middle Of The Ship, Cruises 10 1

One of the most important things you can do to avoid seasickness on a cruise is to book a cabin in the middle of the ship. This is because the middle of the ship is the most stable part of the vessel, and you will feel less movement there.

When booking your cabin, try to choose one that is located on a lower deck. The lower decks are also more stable than the higher decks.

If you are prone to seasickness, it is also a good idea to book a cabin with a balcony. This will give you a place to go to get some fresh air and clear your head if you start to feel sick.

Finally, when choosing a cabin, be sure to avoid cabins that are located near the engines or propellers. These areas can be very noisy and can make seasickness worse.

Here are some additional tips for booking a cabin in the middle of the ship:

  • Choose a cabin that is located between the middle and front of the ship.
  • Avoid cabins that are located near the elevators or stairs.
  • Book a cabin with a balcony if possible.
  • Avoid cabins that are located near the engines or propellers.

Eat light meals

Eat Light Meals, Cruises 10 1

Another important tip for avoiding seasickness on a cruise is to eat light meals. This is because eating a large meal can make you feel more nauseous and increase your risk of getting sick.

Instead of eating large meals, eat small, frequent meals throughout the day. This will help to keep your stomach settled and reduce your risk of getting sick.

When choosing what to eat, opt for bland foods that are easy to digest. Avoid foods that are greasy, spicy, or acidic, as these can upset your stomach and make you more likely to get sick.

It is also important to stay hydrated when you are on a cruise. Drink plenty of fluids, such as water, juice, or sports drinks. Avoid alcohol, as this can dehydrate you and make you more susceptible to seasickness.

Here are some additional tips for eating light meals on a cruise:

  • Eat small, frequent meals throughout the day.
  • Choose bland foods that are easy to digest.
  • Avoid foods that are greasy, spicy, or acidic.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
  • Avoid alcohol.

Stay in the fresh air

  • Sit in a lounge area near a window. This will allow you to get some fresh air without having to go outside.
  • Walk around the ship. This will help to keep your circulation going and reduce nausea.

Avoid reading or watching TV

Avoid Reading Or Watching TV, Cruises 10 1

Reading or watching TV can make you feel more disoriented and increase your risk of getting seasick. This is because these activities can interfere with your sense of balance.

If you are prone to seasickness, you may want to take medication to prevent or reduce the symptoms. There are a number of different medications available, both over-the-counter and prescription.

Over-the-counter medications for seasickness include Dramamine, Bonine, and Meclizine. These medications work by blocking the effects of histamine, a chemical that is released by the body when it is exposed to motion. Histamine can cause nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

Prescription medications for seasickness include scopolamine and promethazine. These medications are more effective than over-the-counter medications, but they can also cause side effects such as drowsiness, dry mouth, and blurred vision.

It is important to take medication for seasickness before you start to feel sick. Once you start to feel sick, it will be more difficult for the medication to work.

Here are some additional tips for taking medication for seasickness:

  • Read the instructions carefully before taking any medication.
  • Take the medication as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Avoid taking multiple medications for seasickness at the same time.

  • Wristbands. Wristbands that contain acupressure points can also help to relieve nausea. These wristbands are worn on the inside of the wrist, and they apply pressure to the P6 point.

It is important to note that natural remedies are not a substitute for medication. If you are prone to seasickness, you should talk to your doctor about the best way to prevent or treat your symptoms.

Here are some additional tips for using natural remedies to prevent seasickness:
